Applications for admittance into the Steamfitters Apprentice Training Program in the Omaha and Lincoln Area will be accepted for two weeks, Monday through Friday, beginning on March 2 through March 13, 2009 . Applications must be completed at the Nebraska Workforce Development Career Centers located at 2421 North 24th Street or 5717 ' F ' Street in Omaha,
1010 ' N ' Street in Lincoln, and 1306 W 3rd Street in Grand Island for the
Lincoln Program from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY FOR AN APPLICANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A PROBATIONARY PIPE TRADES APPRENTICESHIP:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of employment; 06/01/2009
- Complete the application and submit the following:
- Birth certificate or other such document for proof of age;
- High school diploma and transcript or high school equivalency (GED) certificate & official report of test results;
- Military transfer or discharge Form DD-214, if applicable;
- Photo identification;
IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED FOR A PROBATIONARY APPRENTICESHIP YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:
- Pass a mandatory pre-employment drug screen and submit to a for cause drug test.
- Serve as a probationary apprentice for a minimum of one year (1,700-2,000 hours of on-the-job training);
- Serve a 5 year apprenticeship including the probationary period (8,500-10,000 hours of on-the-job training);
- Report to work 40 hours per week, with good attendance and punctuality. The beginning wage rate for a first year, first half apprentice is now $14.49 per hour;
- Provide for your transportation to and from the jobsite;
- Work under the direction of a journey worker on the job site and perform job duties satisfactorily.
- Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes. The night-time classes meet for three to four hours, two or three times a week, and some Saturdays for a period of Five Years, or as the Joint Apprenticeship Committee may direct;
- Purchase text material for use in related training classes as required;
- Abide by all rules & regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee. If a minor, have your parents consent to enter into and abide by the provisions of an apprenticeship indenture, and all rules & regulations as established and set forth by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee, as approved by the Bureau of Apprentice Training of the U.S. Department of Labor.
